For a MacBook that old (Powerbooks dropped off the market somewhere around 2005), you will likely need to use the Snow Leopard DVD that shipped with the Mac.
- When you try to uninstall some of the pre-installed applications – “ Chess ” or “ GarageBand ” for example – by dragging it to the trash will make your Mac prevent you from doing so and a message makes clear that the application cannot be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X.
- The method we are going to outline here will reinstall macOS system software versioned as High Sierra or Sierra without formatting or erasing the Mac, instead only macOS Sierra 10.12 system software will be reinstalled (or macOS High Sierra 10.13, whichever is applicable). The obvious advantage to this approach is that it aims to preserve user.
MacOS Sierra changed the way your Mac handles applications from unidentified developers. It's now stricter with installing such apps than previous versions of OS X, but there are ways to get. For apps downloaded from the Mac App Store, complete the following steps: Step 1: locate the Launchpad icon. Step 2: Select the program/app you want to delete. Hold it down until all the apps begin to jiggle. Step 3: Click the “X” displayed in the upper corner. Sometimes there will be a “Delete” button too that works the same way.
You can try Internet Recovery, but it only works on 2012 and later, or 2010, 2011 models that you installed the firmware update to use Internet Recovery.
On restart, hold down cmd-option-shift-R. If your Mac supports it, you will see a spinning Globe instead of an Apple. Great native macos app. It will boot from Apple's servers and will install the OS that shipped on that Mac. However, it had Snow Leopard at best, so I think it will install Lion.
You will need to erase the drive and reinstall OS X. There is no way to go backwards without erasing the drive. Did you make a backup before upgrading? If so, just boot into Recovery and Restore from a Time Machine backup.
